Hmmmm. I think Alt is what he is. An AHL body. He'll be 25 in a couple weeks. I hope his injury doesn't mean the flyers have to send a body to the phantoms they didn't intend to because of his injury

From what I have read he has to remain on the Flyers roster until he is cleared. Looked like a broken hand to me btw

I don't think they want to LTIR him if they don't have to. Depends on the injury and how long he'll be out.

When healthy, he's a dependable RH guy... this injury just came at the worst time for him. Maybe he makes it into the league, but probably not w/ the Flyers considering their organizational depth on D now.

I don't know. It seems everytime he's about to get a serious look, he gets hurt.

As silly as it sounds, even though the Flyers have a bottom-10/15 defense, Alt may have a better opportunity elsewhere. He may be able to serve a Brandon Manning type of role for a tam that doesn't have the depth of young defenders and bottom-3 defenders that the Flyers have.

Thankfully, there is a thing called SOIR for AHL guys like Alt who get hurt during camp. Alt didn't play any NHL games last season, so the Flyers cap won't be affected by this injury. But Alt will get paid his NHL salary while he's hurt, which is a 6.25x pay raise.

What is the season opening injured reserve (SOIR)?
If a player is injured during training-camp, they can be placed on season-opening injured reserve, to possibly obtain cap relief:

Full Cap Hit
Players who are on a one-way contract, or players on a two-way contract who accrued 50 or more NHL games in the previous season count fully against the cap hit. Teams can opt to place these players on LTIR to obtain cap-relief (LTIR FAQ).

Discounted Cap Hit

Players on a two-way contract, who accured 1-49 NHL games in the previous season, count against the teams cap hit; however, the reduced cap hit is calculated as follows:
Multiply the players NHL cap hit by the total accrued NHL days in the previous season, and divide by the total number of days in the previous season (Ex: 186 for 2014-15)

When a player is reactivated to the active roster, their cap hit reverts back to the full rate

Full cap relief
Players who did not play any NHL games in the previous season can be placed on SOIR do not count against their teams cap hit.

With Alt hurt, I think the Phantoms pairings could be:

Brennan-Sanheim
Morin-O'Neill
Hagg-Willcox
Pettersson
Lamarche

EP has the full roster, although Brennan is not listed because he is counted as a Flyer for some reason.

Wow. If I were alt I'd have the trainer take a hammer to my hand just to make sure of it

Who do you think sits when Alt comes back? I'd be hoping O'Neill.

He won't be placed on LTIR until or if it's necessary during the season, coming out camp. There is some kind of IR list for player injured in training camp.

The discussion was he couldn't go to LV until healthy and it could affect the Flyers well if he's not healthy before the season he goes on an IR so why worry about Alt affecting the Flyers. He wasn't making the Flyers this year. He would have been sent down yesterday if he could have been.

I'm aware of all that. LTIR only exists if a team is over the cap.

With respect to LTIR, you don't want to use it until you have to.

But, as feanor pointed out, there is SOIR, which is much better in this case.

Yeah, it's kind of a weird situation in that respect. But I assume the rule is there so that teams don't have an incentive to demote anyone on a ELC or two-way contract as soon as they get hurt.

Depending on how long he is injured, it could still effect the 23 man roster for opening night, couldn't it?

As far as I can tell, it should not affect the Flyers roster at all.

With how rough the AHL is, I'm sure that by the time Alt is healthy someone else will be hurt. Look at all the dmen that played 10+ games last season.

Morin 76
Drewiske 73
Alt 72
Hagg 65
MacDonald 43
Comrie 32
Lamarche 29
Marti 27
Pettersson 24
Lashoff 17

The Flyers have really only two options when it comes to Alt.

They can try to control his aggression from fighting. Thus, eliminating the possiblity of a hand injury or,

They can simply delete him from their roster. In theory:

Ctrl-Alt-Delete

Thank you.

Downingtown is a good distance from Philly.
